# How the single player report is calculated

## Everything you need to know about where the single player report's signals, levels, criteria and objective results come from, as an admin.

This article explains where the numbers and results in the single player report come from, so you can read them with confidence.

### Each attempt is analysed once

When a participant completes a microsimulation, iluminr analyses their answers once and saves the result. The report reads those saved results. This means:

- scores and tables appear straight away, with nothing to wait for
- every report on the same data shows the same numbers
- the insights, actions and summary are written by AI from those saved results, then kept until the next participant completes

### The four signals

Every answer is scored on four signals. These definitions are the ones the report shows when you hover a signal.

- **Readiness** (prepared to act for real): how prepared people are to act correctly when this scenario happens for real, scored by iluminr AI from the decisions they made in the session.
- **Confidence** (how sure people were): how sure people sounded in their decisions, not whether the decisions were right. Read it beside Readiness.
- **Alignment** (consistency with objectives and procedures): how consistent each response was with the objectives, the procedures and the person's own earlier decisions.
- **Blind spots** (missed essential steps): risks or critical steps people missed when they should have caught them. A higher score means more gaps, so this is the one signal you want low.

### Levels and scores

Each signal is scored out of 100 and shown as one of five levels. The description you read always matches the level shown.

For Readiness, Confidence and Alignment, higher is better. For Blind spots, lower is better, and the report says **Lower is better** wherever Blind spots appear.

| Signal | Levels, lowest to highest | Which way is better |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Readiness | Limited, Developing, Moderate, Strong, Advanced | Higher |
| Confidence | Limited, Developing, Moderate, Strong, Advanced | Higher |
| Alignment | Limited, Developing, Moderate, Strong, Advanced | Higher |
| Blind spots | Minimal, Low, Moderate, Elevated, Critical | Lower |

Blind spots can also show **Withheld** for a participant, so the number of people counted for Blind spots can be lower than for the other signals (for example "37 of 40 people").

A question that nobody reached shows **Not reached**. That is different from **Not analysed yet**.

### Each signal is made of criteria

Each signal is rolled up from criteria that every answer is scored against. You can open them wherever you see **N criteria**: on the Overview signal cards (**N criteria behind this**), in the **HOW Qn SCORED** rail on a question, and on each signal card for a participant. They show where the score came from and where people fell short.

| Signal | Criteria |
| --- | --- |
| Readiness | Outcome reached, Role expectation met, Applied organisational context, Appropriate action identified, Completeness |
| Confidence | Demonstrated conviction, Demonstrated awareness of limits |
| Alignment | Aligned with objectives, Aligned with procedure, Consistent with organisational context, Internally consistent |
| Blind spots | Awareness gap, Execution gap, Governance gap |

The criteria a report shows can vary by microsimulation.

For Readiness, Confidence and Alignment, the Overview panel shows how often the group fully met, partly met or missed each criterion, summed across the questions where it applied. Each criterion shows its **% fully met** and its weakest question.

Confidence is about how people expressed their decisions, not whether the decisions were right.

Blind spots criteria describe exposure:

- **Awareness gap**: did not recognise a factor the situation required.
- **Execution gap**: recognised a factor but did not act on it.
- **Governance gap**: the response did not involve an approval, escalation or notification the situation required, or went beyond the authority the role holds.

Each shows **% showed this gap** and the most exposed question. A high figure means the gap showed up often.

### Questions carry different weights

Some questions count more toward a participant's score than others. The weight shows on each question in the participant's results, for example **Counts 0.6× toward the attempt score**.

### Analysed and completed

The top of the report shows a line like **40 analysed of 40 completed · 40 enrolled**. Only analysed attempts count towards the scores, levels and comparisons.

### How a participant compares with everyone else

![A participant's profile. The Readiness card shows Developing 26/100, "Ahead of 10% of the 40 people analysed", and a dot plot with the median and the top 10% marked.](https://help.iluminr.io/hubfs/kb-images/oct-2026/3-participant-profile.png)

*A participant's profile. The Readiness card shows Developing 26/100, "Ahead of 10% of the 40 people analysed", and a dot plot with the median and the top 10% marked.*

When you open one participant, each signal card shows their level and score out of 100. The Readiness card also shows where they sit in the group:

- **Ahead of X% of the N people analysed**: the share of analysed participants who scored lower than this person.
- A dot plot with one dot for each analysed participant. This person is highlighted.
- The **Median**: half the group scored above it and half below.
- The **Top 10%** band: the scores of the highest-scoring tenth of the group.

The comparison only uses analysed attempts, so it can change as more people complete the microsimulation.

### Learning objective results

![The four signal cards and the Learning objectives card. Objective 01 shows Mostly achieved; objective 03 shows Not assessed because nobody reached its questions.](https://help.iluminr.io/hubfs/kb-images/oct-2026/sp-overview-objectives.jpg)

*The four signal cards and the Learning objectives card. Objective 01 shows Mostly achieved; objective 03 shows Not assessed because nobody reached its questions.*

Each learning objective gets a result:

- **Achieved**
- **Mostly achieved**
- **Partially achieved**
- **Not achieved**

Each objective is mapped to a set of questions, and the report lists them on the objective (for example **Q3 · Q4 · Q16 · 3 questions**). Each objective's result comes from how participants did on the questions mapped to that objective, using the same signals as the rest of the report.

Open an objective to see its Readiness, Confidence and Alignment scores and its weakest question.

Two other results explain why an objective has no level:

- **Not assessed**: nobody reached the questions that test this objective. The objective shows "0 questions" and "No participant reached this objective's questions."
- **Withheld**: the answers come from more than one version of the microsimulation, so they can't be combined fairly. The card tells you why.

Neither is a failure.

### Insights and actions

Insights and actions are written by AI from the saved scores and answers. They are a starting point for your own judgement, so read them alongside the scores.

AI content is marked **ILUMINR INTELLIGENCE** and carries the label "Generated by iluminr Intelligence — check important details."

AI insights can be turned off for an account. Since v26.18.5 they are off by default. Without AI insights, signal scores, levels and learning objective results are not calculated, and Ask AI does not work. Participation and completion figures still appear, and your team can still add its own insights and actions.

Scores and levels need AI insights to be switched on for your account. To turn them on, ask your Customer Success Manager.

On the Overview, each insight sits beside the action it produced. Insights are grouped into lanes by severity, most urgent first: **ACT ON NOW** for Critical and High, then **NEXT** for Medium. Each insight is tagged with a type (Gap, Pattern or Risk) and a severity.

On a question, the AI looks at up to the 300 most recent responses. If there are more, the report says "the N most recently completed of M".
